When nearing high school graduation, Steve was unsure of his college major. His Dad recommended engineering at the University of Cincinnati due to their co-op program.  During his time in school, he enjoyed the opportunity to co-op and see what a career in automation and controls looked like. After graduation, Steve worked in the automotive industry as a controls engineer for nine years.  It was there that he learned the importance of listening to his coworkers on the assembly line since they were performing the processes and using the automated equipment.  Their input was invaluable for him to understand the process and then make improvements to the equipment. This, in turn, made their process easier and more efficient.

In 2005, Steve started with Fosdick & Hilmer (now KFI Engineers) and entered the world of building automation.  During his time here, he has been controls project manager of a couple of new research towers, a new hospital tower, and several AHUs, boiler plant and chiller plant replacements.  As was the case in the automotive industry, client’s and contractor’s input has been invaluable to  project success.  “Being a part of the project from concept design through integration, startup and commissioning has been extremely rewarding.”

“Throughout my career I have been blessed to work with many talented and hard-working people.  I enjoy the opportunity to mentor others as several co-workers have done for me in the past.  I believe building relationships throughout the industry is paramount and I value all the relationships I have with clients, contractors, co-workers and others.  I am continually excited about what we can accomplish together in the future.”

As for his personal life, Steve and his wife Bridget have three children.  When not working, he enjoys running, playing golf, basketball, and spike-ball.  He also enjoys spending time hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains with his wife, watching his youngest daughter play basketball and volleyball and hanging out with his family.

Communication and teamwork are paramount to success
